The B1 Exam in Frankfurt at a Glance

 

The DTZ test demonstrates your German language level and is the standard way to obtain a B1 certificate in an integration course. By passing the exam, you prove that you can speak, read, write, and understand German well enough to find your way safely around Frankfurt and anywhere in Germany.

The B1 exam consists of four parts:

• Listening:
  You will hear short announcements and various conversations and answer the corresponding questions.
  Duration: approx. 25 minutes.

• Reading:
  You will read shorter and longer texts, such as advertisements or simple newspaper articles, and solve tasks related to them.
  Duration: 45 minutes.

• Writing:
  You will write a semi-formal or formal message, such as an email, and demonstrate whether you can express yourself clearly in writing.
  Duration: 30 minutes.

• Speaking:
  You will have a short conversation with the examiners or other participants. This assesses whether you can handle everyday speaking situations.
  Duration: approx. 16 minutes.
